## What happens

A cabdriver recounts the story of his father, who was entrusted with 500 roubles to deliver to the master. After boasting about the money in a tavern, he is pursued by three men, including the forester, who rob and kill him. The driver's young sister Anyutka escapes with the money but is tricked into giving it to the forester's wife. She later witnesses the murderers' drunken revelry and the accidental killing of the forester's child. Anyutka escapes, reports the crime, and the murderers are arrested and punished.
