## What happens

The arrival of a cavalry regiment revitalizes the sleepy town of B---, leading to a grand dinner hosted by the general. Among the guests is Pythagoras Pythagoravitch Tchertokoutski, a former cavalry officer and local aristocrat. After the dinner, the general and his officers decide to visit Tchertokoutski's estate to see his new calash. Tchertokoutski, having overslept and forgotten the invitation, panics and hides in the calash itself. When the general and officers inspect the vehicle, they discover him crouched inside in his dressing-gown, leading to an awkward and comedic revelation.
