## What happens

The narrator, tormented by the monotony and pain of waking life, finds solace in dreams of a beautiful, otherworldly realm. After discovering a papyrus in the dream-city of Zakarion that describes the gate and a drug to unlock it, he takes the drug. Upon passing through the gate, he finds not a glorious land but a white void of infinite space, into which he happily dissolves, escaping the 'dæmon Life' forever.
