## What happens

An old friend, Monsieur Boniface, recounts a shooting story from his past. In 1854, he arrives at his hunting lodge to find his keeper, Cavalier, troubled by his nephew Marius's poaching. After punishing the boy, a fire breaks out, killing the cook Céleste. Marius flees, and Cavalier, in a rage, shoots him dead. Cavalier is acquitted but disappears.
