## What happens

During a violent thunderstorm, two young brothers, Crispín and Basilio, toll the church bells from the tower. Crispín, accused of stealing two gold pieces by the senior sacristan, fears punishment and expresses his misery. Basilio tries to comfort him but is powerless. The senior sacristan appears, fines Basilio and drags Crispín away despite their pleas. After hearing his brother's cries fade, Basilio, in despair, ties ropes together and escapes from the belfry into the night.
